GIMP 2.0 - Text
This is just about text in general in GIMP. :) I'm using GIMP for Windows but hopefully everything is similar to the other ports.
When you add text GIMP automatically puts it in its own 'text layer.' You don't need to create a new one in order to be able to move it around after adding the text.
Font sizes between GIMP and PSP don't match. A bitmap font that looks nice at 6pt in PSP might need to be 8pt in GIMP. Don't despair if the font looks horrid after adding it--you can fix it without starting over again. (get to that in a minute. ;))
