Tutorial #3 - Calleigh Duquesne

We're going to go from this: to this:

Made With: Photoshop CS
Involves: Color Balance, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, and Selective Color
Translatable? No

1. crop your image
(note: I like to sharpen last, and on the uppermost screen layer. If you prefer to sharpen before you color, feel free to do it now)

2. duplicate base, set to screen 100% opacity
(you may need to adjust it or add more screen layers, depending on your base. I like to start with one, and if I need more, I'll go back and do them at the end.)

3. new hue/saturation layer:

Master Saturation: +25

(also depends on base, so you might want to saturate it a little bit less if your icon has enough contrast/pop-outish-ness to it)

4. new color balance layer

Midtones: -16, 0, +17
Shadows: +6, -2, +26
Highlights: 0, 0, -27

Preserve Luminosity UNCHECKED!

5. new brightness/contrast layer

Contrast: +15

(also may need adjusting according to image, but I'd say no higher than 20)

6. new selective color layer

Reds: -100, 0, +100, 0
Cyans: 0, -100, 0, 0
Neutrals: +10, 0, -35, 0

And you're done!

Some icons will turn out a little too red. To fix it, create a new hue/saturation layer, and adjust the reds saturation accordingly.

Feel free to ask any questions, make suggestions, or show me your results =)
