Colouring and texture help
I found these icons while surfing photobucket and i am in love with them. However i cant seem to figure what kind of colouring and textures been used.

insomnikat how the icon was made ^.^These icons were found in numerous photobucket accounts so i have no idea who made them.
I seem to have found one original pic of one.

I figured out that the background has been erased and the pic has been desaturated (correct me if im wrong). Then a texture is used, and i cant seem to figure what texture is used and how like is it used ... by linear dodge? Ive tried to test this out but ive been unsuccessful =(
The artist seems to be using similar techniques in other icons i found but im clueless lol. The other icons seem to have a darken colouring which i cant figure out.
Here are other ones ive found.
