Icon Tutorial : Reita (the GazettE)

Requested tutorial from kisame_kun ^^

Going from to

Program: Photoshop CS3 Extended
Uses: Various Layer Adjustment Layers, Color Layers
Difficulty: Medium, requires knowledge of adjustment layers

1. Start with your base. I don't like to sharpen my bases first, but you can do what you like.

2. The base looks really dull so I did a Hue/Saturation layer.
My settings: Saturation: +51

3. Next I wanted to increase the reds because my base looks very blue. I used a Selective Coloring layer here.
My settings: Whites: -3, +39, +7, -11
Neutrals: -6, -3, -5, -4

4. I made a tan/light brown color layer at Soft Light 100% to make the icon more of a reddish tone.
#ae5e00

5. And I just added a pale pink/magenta color layer at Soft Light 100% to make it more red and a little brighter.
#b48f9e

6. Now it's looking too red so I duplicated my base and dragged it to the top and set it Soft Light 100%

7. Next I added a Brightness/Contrast layer just to make it a tad bit brighter.
My settings: Brightness: +3, Contrast: +12

8. Because I'm so quick to change my mind, I just decided to make it blue again. :P I used a Color Balance layer.
My settings: -29, 0, +41

9. And more blue. I added a light blue color layer at Color Burn 100%
#d5f3ff

10. Now it looks dark so I duplicated the previous layer and set it to Soft Light 67%

11. Then I added a Levels layer because it still looked dark.
My settings: RGB: Input Levels: 20, 1.56, 255
Output Levels: 0, 255

12. If your icon looks too blue, you can try adding a light brown/tan color layer and st it to Soft light at whatever opacity you desire.

13. Finally I added some light textures and tiny text.

Remember: You do not have to copy every single step. You may have to change the settings according to your image.
This tutorial probably works best for dark and dull images.
