Full Icon Tutorial - Giles "Sexy" Icon

We're going to be making this icon: using Paint Shop Pro8 (psp8).


1. We start with this picture:

2. Crop it to 330x330.

3. It should now look like this:

4. Go to Adjust -> Brightness and Contrast -> Clarify (strength 3)

5. Then go to Adjust -> Brightness and Contrast -> Brightness/Contrast (brightness=30, contrast=15). Do this step twice.

6. It should now look like this:

7. Go to Adjust -> Sharpness -> Sharpen More.

8. Resize (shift+s) to 100x100.

9. It should now look like this:

10. Pick a color from the icon using the dropper tool ().

11. I chose #77664B, which is this color:

12. Go to your brush tool ()

13. For this icon I'm using this brush: (made by __lumos)

14. Apply the brush (I usually increase the zoom to 500% to see what I'm doing)

15. Now you have this:

16. Now we apply text. I chose Arial Black 6pt. with the anti-alias option checked, and I wrote "sexy" in all lowercase and applied it to Giles' jacket.

17. Save.

18. And now you have the finished product:
