Applying Makeup Tutorial

Preview:

I’m working with Photoshop Elements 4.0. To my knowledge this can translate to all programs.

We are going from this Photobucket > Photobucket.

How to Apply Makeup: (We will be learning how to apply makeup and to enhance the skin and the picture in general.) I wouldn’t say you have to be advanced to do this tutorial, but you do need to know photoshop a little bit. I’m not going into detail on minor photoshop elements.

**I apologize in advanced for any typos. I'm in a hurry and didn't have time to go over it again. I'll be back later tonight to fix any mistakes.

We are not starting out with icon size yet. That comes at the end.

Image Used: Picture.

1- Open up your picture, in this case the picture of Keira Knightley.
2- Create new layer and fill it with 160e45. Set blend mode to exclusion. Duplicate base layer, drag it to the top and set it to soft light.
3- Layer>NAL>hue/saturation> +20 saturation
4- Layer>nal>brightness/contrast> +10contrast
5- Merge. Duplicate layer.
6- Filter>Blur>smart blur
-Radius: 3.0
-Threshold: 25.0
-Low
-Normal
7- Click on the eraser tool, drag your bottom layer to the top. Erase away all the skin. Or at least part of the skin that you want smoother, stay away from the eye and lips and the nose. Just lightly do the nose.
9-Merge. Create new layer and click on the brush tool. Mine’s set to size 19, 100% and brush over the eyelid. Pick any color you want. I picked ce919d, to match her lips. When you have it the way you want set the blend mode to soft light. Don’t worry about getting it on the eye or anything. You can erase away any mistakes. Create a new layer and pick a new color. I picked ce919d. Brush over top of the eyelid. Set blend mode to soft light. Create a new layer. Take your first color and brush under the eyebrow. Get the whole area. Also brush over the eyebrow. Set to soft light. Now create another new layer. And take your second color and high light the area you juts did (under the eyebrow). Don’t do the whole area. Just pick certain parts and go over it with your second color. Set the blend mode to soft light. Merge everything.
10- Take the blur tool. And blur every place the two colors meet. Make sure you don’t blur it too much. We want a contrast, but just a softer one. Now take whichever color is more prominent. For me it’s the pink color. Create new layer and brush underneath the eye. Set it to soft light. We are now done with the eye shadow.
11- It’s time to make that iris all pretty. =] Take the lasso tool and lasso around the iris. Make sure your zoomed in for this. Filter>sharpen>sharpen.
12- Create new layer and with a white color go over the cornea. Set the blend mode to color. Merge.
13- Take the dodge tool and go over the iris and cornea. Zoom out and go over the bottom part of the lips too.
14- Create new layer and take another pink color. I used ff6482. My brush size is 200. On the cheek just click the brush tool. Set the blend mode to soft light. Merge.
And we are done. It sounds a lot harder than it actually is. Once you have the basic technique down you can play with adding certain aspects. Like adding glitter, ect..

***This is another one I made with the same picture: Picture

15- Resize image, create a 100x100 document and drag image over. Play with the placement and add whatever text and brushes you want. =]
