Icon Tutorial: Kanon (An Cafe)
Hello! After lurking for so long, I finally have the time to post a tutorial.
We will go from
to
Program: Photoshop CS3 Extended
Uses: Levels, Color Layers
Difficulty: Easy
1. Start with your base. I don't like to sharpen my bases first. But you can do what you like.

2. The base was somewhat dark, so I did a Levels layer to brighten it up.
My settings: RGB: 23, 1.44, 255, Output Levels: 0, 255
3. Next I added a purple/blue color layer at Soft Light 100% because the base looked yellow.

4. Next I added a light blue color layer at Color Burn 30%
#bed0e4
5. Now it looks a little dark so I added another blue color layer at Soft Light 100%.

6. Then I added a sea-green color layer at Soft Light 40% to make the icon less purple and brighter.
#88ddbc
7. Then I duplicated my base and dragged it to the top and set it at Soft Light 100%.

8. Then I added an dark blue exclusion layer because I thought the icon looked too white.

Finally I sharpened the base and added some text and light textures.

Remember: You do not have to copy every single step. You may have to change the settings according to your image.
This tutorial probably works best for dark/yellowish images.
Thanks for looking! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
