Hello!
This is my first tutorial; So I'd love to know how I did. : P
I tried to explain my choices properly, 'cause I didn't fancy just giving you a load of numbers to plug in.
I was experimenting the other day, and I loved the results of this one, so I'd thought I'd make a tutorial for it.
So...Here we go!
1. After finding your base, (mine is this cap of Rose Tyler from the Doctor Who episode Turn Left)
crop your image to your own liking and to 100 x 100.
This is my cropped base;

If you feel you have to, sharpen your base. I usually wait until the end and decide if it's neccersary then.
2. As it's so dull, I wanted to brighten my base. Always remember that every image is different and therefore no
tutorial should be followed exactly, so consider this step carefully. I duplicated my base twice and set both to Screen.
The first layer set at 100% opacity, the second to 36%:

Your image may only require one screen layer, or none at all.
3. Well, it's certainly brighter now, but it now looks slightly nasty and de-saturated.
Let's give it some contrast. I prefer levels for this sort of thing; It gives the image a little more depth.
Add a new levels layer wth these settings:
RGB : 20 , 1.00 , 206

4. I reckon Rose still looks rather pale, so to add some warmth I added a new colour fill layer, and filled it with an
ocre/deep yellow colour, # E7AE01
Set this layer to Multiply, at 21% opacity.
Ah, lovely. She doesn't look quite as ill now.

5. Now for abit of colouring stuff.
I was basically just messing around with adjustment layers, and I found i'd made an interesting sort of colouring that
I loved, with the channel mixer.
So, add a new channel mixer layer and stick in the following settings:
Reds- Red: +88 Green: -14 Blue: +18
Greens-
Red: -36 Green: +144 Blue: +24
Blues-
Red: +8 Green: -24 Blue: 104
Mine:

6. I want to enhance the colours, so add now add a new selective colour layer.
My settings were:
Reds-
-19 , +8 , +3 , +2
Yellows-
0 , 0 , +4, 0
Greens-
-60 , -18
Blues-
+45 , -31 , -16 , +7
Magentas-
-53 , +20 , +7 , +2
Whites-
0 , 0 , +7 , 0
Mine:

7. Finally, I added a new Brightness/contrast layer and set the contrast to +10.
And you're done!
My final result:

Other icons I've made using a similar technique:

I'd love to know what you thought, so any comments would be brilliant.
Thanks for reading!
