Tutorial: Swirly line textures

OK. So I decided to attmept my hand at making my own swirly textures. I looked at other tutorials but all the ones that I could find were designed with use of a "pen tool". Since I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 it doesn't work for me because as most of you know Elements doesn't have a pen tool. So I played around and this is what I came up with.

Step 1: Choose your image size. I choose an image 500px high and 300px wide. Then I filled it with black. You can choose whatever color you would like.

Step 2: Create a new layer.

Step 3: On this layer use the brush tool or the pencil tool. Choose a round, soft brush, on normal at 100 percent opacity. I chose a 13px size. Then choose your color. I chose a bright green. Find the middle of the image and make a straight line going down the image. To aid in making a straight line you can hold the shift key while pulling downward.

Step 4: Keeping that same layer selected that you just made your straight line on; go to filter>distort>shear:

You are going to choose the path you want your swirl to make by clicking on points on both sides of the main line like this:

then click ok.

This will give you this:

If you want more swirls then click in more places like this:

That will give you this:

Now you can call this finshed if you like. I like mine to have more of a glow. So what I do next is add an outer glow to it.

Step 5: Go into effects> outer glow> simple. You get this:

Now to brighten it up a bit I just duplicate that layer. You get this:

Then just merge all the layers or flatten the image and there you have it. A new swirl texture.
