Moonie's icon tutorial #1

Here's an icon tutorial that I made!

Made in Photoshop CS3!

From this: Base To this: Finished

Here are the steps to acheive this coloring!

1. Do whatever to prepare your icon base.
Crop, resize, sharpen...etc.

2. Create new fill layer
LAYER > NEW FILL LAYER > SOLID COLOR
Set to Exclusion. You may change the opacity if you'd like, but I usually keep it at 100%.
Fill with #2a0e42.

3. Let's do some selective coloring!
LAYER > NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER > SELECTIVE COLORING

BLUES
Cyan: +14
Magenta: +42
Yellow: +100
Black: -16

MAGENTAS
Cyan: -83
Magenta: +37
Yellow: -57
Black: -93

WHITES
Cyan: -15
Magenta: +10
Yellow: +24
Black: -14

NEUTRALS
Cyan: +13
Magenta: +8
Yellow: +4
Black: +2

4. Time for Brightness/Contrast!
LAYER > NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER > BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST

BRIGHTNESS: +12
CONTRAST: -5

5. DUPLICATE YOUR BASE
Right click on your Background layer. Drag to top.

Set to Luminosity at 19%

6.CREATE NEW FILL LAYER
LAYER > NEW FILL LAYER > SOLID COLOR

Fill with #df81fa
Set to Soft Light at 54%

7. SELECTIVE COLORING YET AGAIN
LAYER > NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER > SELECTIVE COLORING

MAGENTAS
Cyan: +16
Magenta: -22
Yellow: +8
Black: 0

NEUTRALS
Cyan: +9
Magenta: +1
Yellow: 0
Black: +20

You're done!
