Tutorial # 1

TUTORIAL #001

Weapon : Adobe Photoshop 7.0
Complicated : Not At All
Rules : Distribution of any kind is highly inadvisable. In other words : don't do it.

1. We start off with this image, featuring Diva from Blood+, from the lovely gallery at chiaroscuro. Pretty image but a bit lackluster. It needs a little color. Now while some people may be able to do some pretty incredible things with levels, selective coloring, and curves, I'm not one of those people. But before all that, we're going to crop our icon to the dimensions of 100x100. You can preset the cropping size in the toolbar. If you are not familiar with the tools in photoshop, please refer to this image.

2. Now we go back to the bleh factor. The only color here is from her hair and her lipstick, so we're going to change that. Taking the polygonal lasso tool, select all the portions that are her skin. Once selected, create a new layer and fill it with #F4E6E0. Set that layer to multiply.

3. There, a little better. Now Diva looks a little less dead. Now we get to play a little dress up. I decided to make Diva's dress blue. So now, select the areas that correspond to her dress. Once selected, create a new layer and fill it with #55B2E3. Set that layer to multiply. Starting to sound familiar?

4. Now things are looking much better. If you think the picture looks a little light, you can duplicate the first layer, bring it to the top and set that to soft light. It's time to dazzle with pretty textures. I'm a texture whore, so I stuck on this texture by lookslikerain. Set the texture to linear burn.

5. By itself, this looks fine. But, I happen to like sparkly things, so I added this texture on top by myrasis. Set it to screen.

6. Ta da! We're done. Pretty simple, huh? Try it out and show me what you get C=
