Blending with GIMP

Hi, I've looked in the archives for blending tutorials or guidelines for GIMP, and I'm still having a hard time. I know there are a few ways to do it, and I'd like the easier one :D. I've just recently downloaded GIMP, although I've used PSP for a long time. If anyone is willing to help me.. thanks!! :)
