These are recreations, so I tried to make them as close to the original icons as possible.

Tutorial #5: Pirates of the Caribbean
I used this screencap.
Prepare your base and choose a crop you like.
Go to Image > Adjustments > Variations; choose More Red, More Yellow
result:
Duplicate Base, Sharpen, Set to Screen 100%
Duplicate this Layer, Sharpen, Set to Screen 73%
Duplicate this Layer, Set to Color Burn 19%
Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels; settings: 0, 1,22, 251
Make a new layer, flood fill with #f3e5bd; set the layer to Multiply 25%
merge all layers and you're done!

I used this picture.
Prepare your base and choose a crop you like.
Go to Image > Adjustments > Variations; choose More Red, More Yellow

Duplicate Base, Sharpen, Set to Soft Light 100%
Duplicate this Layer, Sharpen, Set to Screen 32%
Duplicate this Layer, Set to Color Burn 17%
merge all layers and you're done!

Note: This is definitely not how I colored the original icon as you can tell by the obvious difference, but this is how close I could come recreating it and I quite like this outcome too.
I used this screencap.
Prepare your base and choose a crop you like.
Go to Image > Adjustments > Variations; choose More Red, More Yellow, More Blue, Lighter

Duplicate Base, Sharpen, Set to Soft Light 100%
Duplicate this Layer and leave it at Soft Light 100%
Duplicate this Layer, Set to Screen 100%
Duplicate this Layer, Set to Screen 76%
Duplicate this Layer, Set to Color Burn 12%
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Colors; use the following settings
REDS +65 +8 -23 +7
NEUTRALS +9 0 -6 0
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance;
on Midtones use the following settings: -1 +9 -6
on Hightlights use the following settings: 0 0 +5
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves;
I can't remember my settings, so I just saved the curves layer, download it here and load it
merge all layers
Sharpen Base, Go to Edit > Fade Sharpen, set to 25
and you're done!

Ps: I believe in the original icon I used a Color Balance Layer somewhere. At least it looks like that to me, but these Kristen icons were created at the end of May, and I didn't keep PSDs, so I can't be sure. Sorry. I hope you will still find those tutorials useful.
