gimp problems

I've been having a problem  with my Gimp lately. Whenever I open it up to make icons, it will close. Not right off the bat, but when I'm in the middle of making something or when I'm opening a picture-- it'll just close. No explanation, no "would you like to save this?", nothing. Just closes.

It's done this once before, but I think it just sort of fixed itself. It's not done that this time though, so does anyone have any ideas as to what could be done?
