!!!!!!!! please keep in mind that not all tutorials will give you a nice looking icon, it depends on the picture, i guess. but this is just a tutorial on the use of monochrome.

1. crop your base, sharpen it, add contrast if you need to, whatever.

2. the cheapest lamest trick everyone knows of, the dark blue exclusion layer.
>> set to exclusion @ 60%

3. now, the use of a gradient. gradients are just colors that mix in to each other, and give dull icons "life"
put that on a blank layer & set to soft light. >>

4. MONOCHROME :D!!!!!!1 my favorite effect thingy in photochop.
go back to your base layer, and make a duplicate of it. now go to image > adjustments > channel mixer > check monochrome.
it should be black and white. i dont like using the desaturate way thingy, monochrome keeps more 'texture' to the picture.
set to overlay >>

5. make a duplicate of your base again, dragged all the way to the top of your layers. do the monochrome thing, and set it soft light.
soft light >> yes there is a difference >:O

6. black 1px border.


you can jack the icon if you'd like, i dont care.
