Tutorial :: 1 (Translatable) (Involves Color Balance)
I made a tutorial, finally, it's under the cut!
to
to
I use PS (but it's temperamental) and GIMP, but I like to make things Translatable so that either program can use it. No Hot-linking please.
I got my original picture from James McAvoy.net in his Photoshoot gallery.

1.) I didn't do anything to the base just yet, but cropped it and sharpened it by 20.
2.) Next I screened the base, but lowered the opacity to 30%

3.) Next I duplicated my layer (or in PS added a New Adjustment Layer) and used a color balance, as such:
Midtones:
Cyan/Reds: -50
Magenta/Greens: -25
Yellow/Blues: -10

4.) Okay, so I used a Channel Mixer (for GIMP go to Color>Components>Channel Mixer)
Set the settings as: (Preserve Luminosity checked)
Reds:
Red: 169.0
Green: -60.0
Blue: 0.0
Greens:
Reds: 0.0
Green: 100.0
Blue: 0.0
Blues:
Red: -60.0
Green: (For this image I used 160.0) Most of my images I use 127.0 (for a yellower effect, try either depending on your image)
Blue: 0.0

5.) It depends on your image, but I sharpened it one more time about 20 (depends on your image) to give it a little more definition.

6.) You can stop there, if you want a plain colored effect, but next I made a new Layer and used the rectangle marquee tool to make a small text box, and filled it with white. I set the opacity of that layer to 70%
7.) I added a Text Layer, using Times New Roman text Size 1, with the space in between 4.0
8.) I added another new layer and used a brush (and I apologize but I don't know who it's by) Set the opacity to 70%

I had to erase some parts to fit my text box.
