does anyone know how to help?

A friend of mine is using the same version of photoshop as mine yet he seems to have a problem with opening files. This is what is said everytime he tries to open the image:

adobe reader could not open (name of file).jpg beacause its either not a supported file type or beacuse the file has been damge (for example it was sent as an email attchment wasnt correctly decoded)

Yet I'm able to open and edit the picture without any problem. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks in advance ~
