Colbie Caillat - Coloring and Sharpening

A painfully easy tutorial. Made in PSP9. Easily translatable.

STEP ONE
First things first. Always set up your base image. I obviously had to shrink this picture, so it was rather blurry. I did two things: Adjust >> Sharpness >> Sharpen and Adjust >> Sharpness >> Unsharp Mask with Radis:2.0, Strength:70, Clipping:0. You can fuss with that all you want until the base looks right for your icon.

>>

STEP TWO
This will look terrifying for a while, so please be patient. Add a layer of pure green (#00ff00) and set it to Saturation (Legacy), 100%.

>>

STEP THREE
My particular base was very dark, so next we'll go with a lightening trick. I copied the base and pasted it twice on top of the current layers. Set them both to screen. Set the topmost layer to Black and White using the Adjust >> Hue and Saturation >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness.

>> >>

STEP FOUR
Looking better? Now for some coloring. Add a layer of craem (mine is #e9c58d) and set it to Multiply, 100%.

>>

STEP FIVE
Almost there. Now copy your base layer once more and paste it on the top. Set it to Soft Light, 100%.
