Full Tutorial PSP7: Ultraviolet Gradient
This is my first tutorial so please give me suggestions if I do it wrong or I'm confusing. Also I won't object to comments if you have anything good to say about it. :) Alright here goes.
To make this icon with Paintshop Pro 7:

I started off with these two screen caps from http://www.skye-online.org:
Cap 1
Cap 2
Start off by cropping cap 1 and resizing it to 100x100 so it looks like this:

Copy the cropped picture and then create a new 100x100 image. Go to edit > paste > as new layer. Now you should have 2 layers: one with the picture (layer 2) and an empty one (layer 1). Drag layer one to the top of the layers palette.
Click on layer 2, right click and duplicate the layer. Set the layer blend mode on this new layer to soft light. Click on the eye by layer 1 to hide it. Right click on layer 2 and go to merge > merge visible. This is what I have now:

Make a duplicate of the merged layer. Using the lasso selection too select the area around the figure like so, making sure you're selection is on the copy of the merged layer:

Now go to effects > blur > gaussian blur. Set the radius to 6.00 and press ok. Now I have this:

With the selection still in place, create a new layer above copy of merged on the palette. With the color #C0C0C0 I used this paintbrush by
calixa:

Now I have this:

Then go back to your second image, (mine was Cap 2) and crop it and resize to 100x100. Mine looks like this:

Copy the new cropped image and go back to your first image (the half finished icon). The selection should still be in place from before. Create a new layer under the paintbrush layer on the palette. Go to edit > paste > into selection. Now I have this:

Set the blend mode to luminance. Go to selections > select none. Above the paintbrush layer create a new layer. Choose gradient on the color palette. I used this gradient:

It was a preset: Ultraviolet. If you don't have it, here's how you get it:
Create a new gradient.
The purple is: #FF40FF
Gradient settings:

The darker blue is: #4040FF
Gradient settings:

The lighter cyan is: #40FFFF
Gradient settings:

For transperency the left arrow should be set at 100% opacity and 0% loaction like so:

The right arrow is 80% opacity and 100% location like this:

Make sure the gradient is like so:

Now on a new layer above the paintbrush layer, fill in the paintbrush tool the gradient and set the blend mode to screen. Now we have:

Now click on layer 1, it should still be on the very top of the palette. With white (#FFFFFF) I used this paintbrush by
crumblingwalls:

for the border and ended up with this:

Yay now I'm done! You can add text or whatever if you want but I like mine like that. Ok hope this was a good tutorial!
