too dark

I have a quick question about a problem I'm having with my PSCS2. After I've finished making my icon or graphic and save, the quality always seems much darker then I've thought it was.

Am I doing something wrong or have a setting on incorrectly? I'm sure that there is an easy solution and I'm just being stupid.
