How do I make this?

I love my lj layout and i would love to learn how to do something like it. 



I want to know how to make the lines go from small to big, i guess its a brush, but im not sure. This looks like it should be easy to make but for some reason i cant get it to look right!  also if anyone knows where i can find some splatter brushes that would be great =) thanks!
