PSP 8 Tut

PSP8 tut used for making this icon:

First off, I could not have done this tut without what I learned from a tutorial by remyheart that can be found here.

I started out with this promo photo from Lost (credit to txvoodoo.)

I then made a new image. File -> New -> Dimensions 100x100 -> Raster background -> Background color black. (Example).

Going back to the original image, I used the selection tool on square and choose a 100 x 100 selection of Charlie's face.
.

When you have the part you want selected, hit CTRL + C, then CTRL + V. You will then have a new image of what you selected.

Charlie is teh pretty. -coughs- Um... moving on. hehe

Make sure that the new image of just Charlie's face is selected and copy it. Go to your black icon that we made and paste it on as a new layer, above the background layer. I rename my layers, so the bottom is "background" and the one above it "charlie."

Now, repeat the above two steps for Claire's face. When you have her face only copied, paste it as a new layer above the Charlie layer.

Alright! Now we will work with just one image! Close the others if you wish. What we want now is to blend the two layers of Charlie and Claire so you can see them both. Move the two layers around and position them how you want. After you do that, use the selection tool in rectangle and select the area where the two layers overlap. I make my selection thin, (example) then I hit CTRL + H and feather it out (example).

With the area selected, hit the delete button on your keyboard. Don't hit it too much, it'll look funkay! Here's what I had when I finished with the blending:

Alright! Now the fun part! lol Merge visible layers. Now this is where remyheart's tut comes into play. Go here and follow steps 2 - 5.

Back? Sweet! Now, after you've blurred it to how you like, merge all layers and then go to Image -> Increase Color Depth -> 16 Million colors. Add a new raster layer to the image. Choose your flood fill tool, and making sure that you're on the new raster layer, fill with a gradient or color of your choice. Then set the layer properties to burn. You can lower the opacity if you like, it's up to you! Some colors don't look very good, so don't be afraid to try new things! For this icon, I used the gradient duotone light that comes with PSP8.

After that, add text or borders if you like! Here's my final:

So how was that? Easy to follow? Suggestions? Please don't be mean? -begs- This is my first tut.
