Creating Scrapbook Textures

I seen that someone wanted to learn how to recreate a scrapbook texture and everyone said it was a scan which was ovbious.. so I figured I'd do a walkthrough on the texture and you can apply the basic instructions to recreate another one that you like.

To make the button I first picked a neutral grey to work with, I can colorized it later.I made a circular selection on it's own layer and a smaller selection on top of that on it's own layer. Both layers had a bevel & emboss & drop shadow layer style ddded ( Layer > Layer Style ).
NOTE: on the smaller of the 2 circles used "down" and on the larger use the "up" option for bevel and emboss

For the center I just applied a grey & white gradient overlay on a small circle. And then added 4 dark dots for the thread holes. I colorized it with this color

To make the striped background I went to the original image and selected all the main colors And just began to add stripes to a blank canvas

For the fabric accent I made the basic outline using brushes and the select area tool.

Then added a Texture > Texturizer Filter to gie it a cloth look.

When added together you get something pretty close to the origianl

I wrote this using photoshop 7, I hope you enjoy!
