CURVES!

I have no idea why, but whenever I use curves it comes out different from how it looks like in the tutorial. I get that in every picture it's different but I've done it even with the picture used in the tutorial and it NEVER comes out the same. Please help!

I used Photoshop CS.

When I do use curves, I just input the same thing that the person puts and I click okay, it ever comes out the same. Is there something I'm missing.


Someone please help.
Preferably I think it would help me to get a screenshot of every step of the way to the curves. Starting from the opening dialog where you input a name for your adjustment layer.
