Making animations from video clip using Photoshop CS3 and Fireworks?

I have trial versions of both Photoshop CS3 and Fireworks simply because I want to learn how to make an animated icon, using a video file. Is it possible to use these two programs to do what I want to? And if so, would anyone be willing to walk me through it?
