Burnt/torn edges

I was hoping for some tips on how to apply burnt or torn edge effects to an icon. For instance, I have this burnt paper brush by graphicquandary that I'm trying to use.

What's generally the best way to make that sort of thing look like a natural part of the image? I use PS7, if it matters.
