PS type tool help

I have been using the PS CS3 trial until my actual program arrives. Just recently, when I've been making icons, the type tool has been acting weird. I create a text box and type but the writing is incredibly small even when the type is set large. It occurs with all my fonts and type sizes. Any help would be appreciated.
