Problem!!!!!!!

Okay, I just got adobe cs2 and I'm super excited and all, but heres the things as you see here, I have sydeny selected  with the  magent tool but how did just get her as a selction? I just came from pro 8, and it was so much simpler!
 and how do you copy and past a layer?!! I used adobe image ready before this, and I also I figured out how to do it on that one, but when I try on this it was totally diffrent! *steams* Help! please! on a  side note I also like to know if anyone knows any selective color tuts list? and which works best on anime icons?
