GIF Icons?

Hello!
I'm looking for tutorials how to make the 'moving icons'. 
I have seen tutorials but everything I found wasn't for people who are at the beginning.
Is these any other program except Image Ready?(it seems a little crazy to me to take caps from the movie, to crop them one after another(how can they  be all the same!?) and put the same effects)
