Brush/Texture question

Hey guys! I have no idea where to go to look for answers to this, but does anyone know where to get those pinwheel icons/textures (I'm not sure which they are) that are used in icons like:

(kandees@gj) ?

Do icon makers just make them themselves? Thanks for any help!
