Harry/Hermione Icon Tutorial

From to in six easy steps! Made with PSP 9, but easily translatable.

Step One - Sharpen
Duh. This is pretty obvious. Basically, just do any standard touch-ups you'd do to a base.

Step Two - Brightness and Contrast
You want a brightness of -2 and a contrast of 50. Depending on your base picture, you might want to adjust that a little bit.

Step Three - Hue/Saturation
Duplicate your base layer. Set it to black and white by putting the hue/saturation to -100.

Step Four - Place and Erase
I didn't mean to make a cheesy rhyme, sorry. Drag your B&W layer down and erase the top part of it a bit so it doesn't look so harsh. This is in case you decide not to use the white brush. Depending on your base, you might not have to.

Step Five - Add Brush
I did some kooky things to get this brush, so I'll make your life easy and tell you to just paste this on top and set it to Screen, 100% Opacity.

Step Six - Add Tex
Now for the text. I used Palatino Linotype, size 6, in bold print, with kerning 225.

Inspired by the current challenge at hhr_lims but not submitted. I did something else for my entry, but I was playing around with the picture afterwards and really liked how this icon came out. Please don't use this icon in that challenge. ;D I'd have to hunt you down.
