TUTORIAL
heres how to make this icon.

hopefully it helps someone. this is my first tutorial ever so it probably will have alot of problems with it. but constructive critasism is appricated.
step 1:
first i started out with this image and resized it down to 100x100

step 2:
then using the lasso tool i traced around her and pasted the cut out product on a new 100x100 slate. make sure that you have a layer before you paste the picture of ashley lets call it [ground]

step 3:
on your layer palett click on stroke and choose the color you wish to have the picture outlined with. and choose the thickness of the outline as well, choose what you think looks best. i used size "2"
step 4:
then click on the ground layer and click on the paint bucket. at the top there should be a fill drop down box click on it and make sure pattern is selected choose a pattern you would like to have as the background. i choose black stripes. which i created, you can find more patterns at other sites.

step 5:
sharpen the image of ashlen and then click on image>adjustments>brightness/contrast and set it to what you think looks best. i can remember exactly what my settings were.
step 6:
create a new layer and fill the color with a dark blue. i used #00054C and then put the layer to "exclusion"

step 7:
the create a new layer and then right click on the paintbucket and use this granit. and then put the layer to "difference" you can change the opacity if you wish i changed it to 67%

so this is what it should look like

step 8:
create a new layer again and fill the color with "white" and then change the opacity to 29% this gives the icon a softer look

step 9:
i added words if you would like to add the poetic look words just follow these steps
first create a new layer and fill it with the color you want your text to be laying on. i choose #007393. then type the text you want my font was [book antiqua] and it was set @ 8pt. then use the lasso tool and outline the text in funky ways.. once your done that click invert and then delete and there you have your poetic text. ps: i also changed the opacity but you dont have too at all if you dont want too

step 10:
feel free to add brushes as i did, and then feel free to add a border i used the brushes and border created by "insomnic"
and heres the FINSIHED product

i hope this helped someone. sorry it wasnt to in depth.. lol i tried.
