Hue blending tutorial for PSP 7
This is sorta similar to the one I did the other day, but it has a few more steps. Pretty simple still. Enjoy. :-)
I will be making this icon:
I'll be using this picture... yes... another screencap from The Butterfly Effect, lol.
CROP and RESIZE the image to 100x100 pixels. I will refer to this image as 1. COPY 1 and PASTE AS A NEW IMAGE. I shall refer to this image as 2. Set 2 aside for now. Your picture should look like this:
Next, I'll be using this gradient I made. I have filled a blank 100x100 image with the gradient.
COPY this gradient image and PASTE AS A NEW LAYER on 1. *MAKE SURE TO LEAVE THE GRADIENT OPEN; YOU WILL USE IT AGAIN LATER ON* Set the BLEND MODE to overlay and MERGE the layers. You should get this:
COPY 1 (merged gradient image) and PASTE AS A NEW LAYER over 2 (the one I said to set aside). Set the BLEND MODE to hue and merge the layers. It will look something like this:
I will be using image 2 from now on, so you may CLOSE 1. I will be using this border on the icon.
COPY the border and PASTE AS A NEW LAYER over the icon. Set the BLEND MODE to soft light and merge the layers. You get this:
COPY the gradient image again and PASTE AS A NEW LAYER on the icon. Set the BLEND MODE to hue and merge the layers. You're done with the colors now so you may CLOSE the gradient image. It should look like this:
Now I'm going to add some text. First thing you need to do is CREATE A NEW IMAGE of any size and use the FLOOD FILL tool to fill the image with a dark color. I've chosen a color found within the image (hex color #463A24):
Now, using the TEXT tool, I'm going to add some simple text to this brown image. The font I'm using is called Copperplate Gothic Bold. Make sure you have the text set to FLOATING. Next, you're gonna ROTATE the text 5 degrees to the right. It'll look like this:
From the SELECTIONS drop-down menu, select MODIFY; EXPAND. EXPAND the selection by one pixel. Now CUT the selection (text) and PASTE AS A NEW LAYER over the icon. You should have this:
DUPLICATE the text layer. Set the top layer BLEND MODE to lighten and the other layer to exclusion. Use the GAUSSIAN BLUR effect (5.0) on the bottom (exclusion) layer. Set the opacity for the top layer (overlay) to 72. That's it, you're done!
