Layers in animated gifs??

Hey guys! I have a quick question... I'd like to add some background and text (and generally snazz up) this icon.. but I'm not sure how to go about it. Is there a way to get the animated part on a layer and work behind it so I can add some background with some stuff in it? (For the record, I have both Imageready and Animation Shop..) Thank you for any help.. :)
