Help. dull caps. :(

Does anyone know how to make those vibrant icons with these? Or just make them uhm, pretty? I dunno just not dull. Ive been looking everywhere for good tuts for these but can't seem to find any. My results are always either really dull or grainy.

Anyway, here are the pics. I can't really use selective coloring because they don't have much color in itself but I'd still like to know how to make them a little bit fun though.
