Colouring question.

I'd be very happy if someone could help me with this. I'm trying to get a colouring close to the icons featured below, but I can never seem to get it right. I don't think that it's done with this tutorial, before anyone suggests that.

I've asked her about some of them before, but she never gave me an answer, and that was awhile ago. So I'm coming here, and I hope some of you could help me. I know it has to deal with curves, and I think my current icon is kind of the same colouring, just more mild. Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Edit/ Sorry, forgot to mention that I use Photoshop CS.
