For people who have a basic understanding of psp 7

Pretty simple tutorial for this icon; using PSP 7:

First off, I'm using this picture. It's a screencap I made from the movie The Butterfly Effect. Pretty simple. OPEN it in PSP 7.

Next thing I'm gonna do is CROP and RESIZE the icon to 100x100 pixels. It now looks like this:

Now I'm gonna work with the colors. I'm going to be using this gradient (that I made in using gradient explorer-type filter):

OPEN the gradient (I just placed it on a 100x100 blank image; you could do this same thing by using the color fill paint bucket for one of the preset gradients) in PSP 7. COPY the gradient image and PASTE AS A NEW LAYER over the icon image. Set the layer BLEND MODE to soft light. Merge the layers. It should look like this:

Now, I'm gonna use a brush border thing. I don't really like using brushes anymore, so I'm just using the image; sort of like a template. I'm sorry, I do not remember who made this (if you know, please tell me so I can credit). OPEN the border image:

COPY the border image and PASTE AS A NEW LAYER over the merged icon image. Use the MAGIC WAND tool to remove the white part of the border image. You should then end up with this:

Looks OK, I suppose... but I've got something else in mind. ;-) Set the top layer BLEND MODE of your icon (that would be the border) to overlay. MERGE the layers. You'll get this:

I usually like adding text to my icons, but since this is just for a simple tutorial, I'm just adding something pretty plain. Using the TEXT tool, add whatever text you want. The font I used here was Apple
Garamond. Make sure you have it set on FLOATING. I end up with this:

Kinda dark. So now, using the DROP SHADOW effect on the text with a color from the image (hex code #DEECB7) with the following settings:
Offset; Vertical: -1, Horizontal: -1
Attributes; Opacity: 91, Blur: 4.9
DEFLOAT the text and you're all done!
