For PSP and Jasc Animation Shop.

This tutorial will explain how to make this icon:

Out of the following two images:

It's A LOT easier than it seems.

This is my first tutorial, so criticism is welcome as well. :)

1. We have an icon base (100x100) in animation shop. I whipped this one up randomly in about five seconds. Feel free to use it to test this on.

-

2. Paste this icon base into Animation Shop (CTRL+V). Now, we go back to PSP. We still have our base open, and we need to lighten it a little. We go to Adjust > Brightness and Contrast > Brightness Contrast. Somewhere around 15 in each box works well, though you can play around with the settings as you find fit.

Press OK.

-

3. Paste this lighter base into Animation Shop after the original base by selecting the original base and pressing CTRL+SHIFT+L.

-

4. Select the first frame, and go to Effects > Insert Image Transition. Make sure you settings look like this:

You can, of course, choose a different effect style, but I chose "Pinwheel" for this one. A few others you may like are Blinds, Checker Wipe, Fade (for a glow effect), Slats, or Star Wipe.

-

5. Now for the image. I chose this one:

What we need to do is paste this into PSP. Then, we will erase the unneeded areas in the background. For PSP8 users, the Background eraser comes in handy here. Keep in mind this part may take some practice.

When we're done erasing we have this:

-

6. Now, we take the smallest side, and resize it to 100 pixels, since that's the size of our icon base (Image > Resize). Don't worry that it's not 100x100. When it's resized, paste it into Animation Shop as a new animation (CTRL+V).

-

7. Since our original animation with the Pinwheel effect on it is nine frames long, we're going to have to paste the picture of the girl nine times, consecutively. We already have one pasted, so we need to press CTRL+SHIFT+L eight times. We'll now have this:

-

8. Now select all (CTRL+A), and copy all (CTRL+C). Select our original Pinwheel animation and select all, but DON'T copy it. Now press CTRL+E, and place the picture in the frame.

I wanted to add text. Do this the same way you pasted the picture in:

-

And you're done! You now have this:
