Tutorial #9: Rainbow
using PSP8. No curves, translatable. On a scale of 1 to 10 difficulty, this is about a 3.
1. Crop, sharpen, all that jazz.
2. Duplicate your base layer. Desaturate it, then go to Adjust >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur. Set your radius to 5 or so. Finally, set this layer to Soft Light, 100%.
3. Make a new layer and drag it to the top of the layer palette. Flood fill it with black (#000000) and set it to Color (Legacy), 50-75%, depending on the picture. Mine was set to 55%.
4. Using the following settings, select the part you want to be rainbow colored. You don't have to be perfect, you can always clean it up later.
5. Make a new layer. Flood fill your selection with a rainbow gradient, such as this one:
(default in PSP). Set this layer to Hue (Legacy) and an opacity that works with your image.
6. If you want, add some text. I used the font Carnivalee Freakshow, size 14, rotated clockwise 90 degrees, set to Burn, 75%.
7. Also optional, but add some brushes. I used some dots coming down from the text and a heart in the corner.
8. Finally, on a new layer, add a 1px wide white (#FFFFFF) border and set it to Overlay, 100%.
