Icon Tutorial

Hi everyone! This is my first tutorial ever and even though it's not much, I'm still pretty psyched about it. So I thought I'd share it with you guys ;)

We'll be making this icon:



Excited? Great!



First, we'll have our base. I took this picture from stock.xchng



Crop and resize to 100x100

Desaturate and then copy the base once. Set to overlay 100%
Merge layers together (Ctrl + E)

Take this light texture by ashke_icons and set it to Soft Light at 50%



Then take this gradient and set it to Overlay 100%



Note: If anyone knows who made this gradient, please let me know so I can give proper credit.

Add a new layer and flood fill it with #969581. Set to Vivid Light, 70 %

Hooray! You're well on your way! Just a few more steps.

Add a new layer between your base and the first gradient. We'll be adding a border here.
I used this border made by neke



Add the border twice for extra effect (although it won't show very clearly on a white background)

Now add a new layer (below the gradients) for some text. I used this brush made by tsukicon.



Finally, take this texture and drag it all the way to the top.



Set it to Screen, 70%

All done! Easy, right? And if you don't mind me saying, not too shabby for my first tutorial either ;)
