Coloring tutorial

Hi there.. I made an icon tutorial, my first one ever.. I hope you like it, please comment and give me some feedback, so I know if I should make more tuts =P
It's for PS7, but very easy to translate. Enjoy!

First of all let me just say that all pictures are different. You'll probably have to change some opacities, or chance some colors a little. The coloring in this tut is not really hard and/or spectacular. Just a good basic coloring that works for a lot of pictures. So adjusting shouldn't be too hard if you have some PS knowledge. Here goes..

1. Crop, resize and sharpen your picture, duplicate the base and set it to screen. Change the opacity, or add an extra screen layer untill it's about as light as this picture:

2. Merge all layers. Duplicate the base, desaturate it, and set it to soft light at 100%
3. Make a new layer, flood fill with #00000E, set to exclusion at 100%
4. Select all (ctrl + a), and copy merged (edit > copy merged)
5. Paste on top of everything ans set to soft light at 30%
6. Make a new layer, flood fill with #A8D0DB, set to soft light at 100%
7. Make a new layer, flood fill with #D8D8D8, set to color burn 100%
8. Duplicate the exclusion layer from step 3, drag it to the top, and set it to 50%
9. Paste this gradient on top of everything and set it to color burn at 100%

This gradient works best for the picture I chose. If the subject of your picture is in a totally different place do this:
Make a new layer, make sure your foreground color is #B3DEEA, and your background color white. Now use the gradient tool, and make sure the blue part of the gradient covers whole subject of your icon. And then of course set this layer to color burn at 100%.
10. Make a new layer, flood fill with #9A3B4D, set it to overlay at 20% (you can also use soft light here, whatever works best on your picture)
11. Copy the desaturated soft light layer, which you created in step 2, drag it to the top, and set it to 30%.
12. Now add some (tiny) text, brushes, or just nothing.. Whatever works for you, and you should have something that looks like this:

And of course, if you have any questions, please, do ask. I'll be happy to answer!
