A few questions about screencapping

I've checked the memories multiple times, so my answer either isn't there, or I'm not looking hard enough. Either way, I need help.

In Windows Media Player, I've followed all the instructions in this tutorial (I've turned off video acceleration and unchecked "Snap Slider to common speeds"), and I still can't take screencaps. When I paste, it still does that thing where the part where the movie is playing, the image doesn't move. (I know that doesn't make sense, but I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about.) Is there anything I haven't done, or anything else I can do to make this work for me?

Is it possible to take caps with RealPlayer?

I read in the Memories that if I change a DVD file to divx, then I can play it in VirtualDub. How do I convert the file?
