Blue Exclusion layer

Hello everybody. I just have a simple question. I really like the effect of "muted" colors and most of all, I really like to use a blue exclusion layer. The thing is that my icon can be very yellow-ish on some monitors and boy it's not pretty at all. I wanted to know if you could gave me some tips on how to achieve a similar effect without using the exclusion layer or maybe something to avoid having theses yellow shades.
I use Photoshop CS.
