technical help

Ok people, I need your technical help.
I downloaded the new HP trailer as .mov (Quciktime) and want to create icons and mini movies tonight.

So, here are my questions:
1) How can I convert a .mov into a .mpg file? Are there any free programs available for download?
2) Can I make screencaps with quciktime? If yes, how?
