Wow, here goes :D
1. So I start off with this image of Australian fastbowler Brett Lee:

2. I crop it to 100x100px

3. I duplicate it twice

4. Selecting the top layer I use the polygonal lasso tool and trace around the bit I want to keep normal.

5. Select, Inverse. Press Delete
6. Select, deselect. If you look at the top layer now, it should look as if the backround has gone
transparent

7. Click on the middle layer.
8. Filter, Blur, Motion Blur. These are the settings I usually use but it's up to you as to how blurry/realistic you want it.

9. On the same layer right click and click on blending options

10. Click on Pattern Overlay. I used a pattern that lots of people use these days,You can find a tut to make it HERE
11. Than I used a gradient that I made (just green and gold)

12. Merge Visible

13. I thought the colour looked a bit bland so I duplicated the icon 3 times again.
14. Set Middle layer to Linear Light at 100%

15. Set top layer to screen 100%. Perfect!

16. Merge visible
17. Now for the text I thought i'd try something different. I open a new window at 61 width x 12 height pixels, transparent.
18. Fill with #C8FCC7 though the colour won't really matter later
19. Select All and paste it into your icon, I put it here because that's where my text is going to
be. I set it to 50% Opacity

20. I added the default star brush on this layer as well set to size 37 to make it look a bit speccy :D

21. Right clicked on the layer, blending options pattern overlay with these settings.(it's a
default pattern)

22. I then type in a 'Jokerman' font "My Star" in size 12 in black

23. Right click, blending options, click Drop shadow the default settings should be fine. Outer glow
default settings again should be fine. Double click on stroke. Set the size to '2', fill type: color. And the colour I used was- #FFFCCF

24. Layer, merge visible
25. I thought the text needed to stand out a bit more so I used the star brush twice more

26. Perfect, now all I need is a border. Right click and duplicate layer.

27. Right click on the new layer, and blending options
28. Double click on stroke. Use my settings.(I used a default gradient)

29. Layer, merge visible.
That's it!

heh, hope this is ok for you guys :D
