'tangled up in blue' - kiefer sutherland icon tutorial

Just a simple technique that I liked and decided to share while I'm in the midst of making 100 Kiefer icons. Five steps, four layers total!

This was done in PSP9, and I don't have Photoshop, so I'm not sure how transferable it is. It's a real cut too.

So we have our image.

Crop and resize to 100x100 pixels.

Unsharp mask.
Adjust > Sharpness > Unsharp Mask
[Settings: Radius=1, Strength=47, Clipping=0]

Clarify.

Add a light effect.
Copy image, paste as a new layer.

Add some text. (If you want.)
Text tool. Vector layer #1
"tangled up in"
[Font: Dear Joe, size 12]

Text tool. Vector layer #2
"blue"
[Font: Dear Joe, size 26]

And there you have it!

For note, the final order of the layers, top to bottom, is:
The light effect (which is a raster layer)
Vector layer #2
Vector layer #1
Your original base layer

Please don't copy this straight out and make dozens of icons from it, experimenting is fun! There's a whole bunch of similar light effects at this post and others at awmpdotnet. If you want to use the icon, go ahead, just credit moofoot. If you make an icon using this tutorial, I'd love to see it! :)
