VirtualDub isn't working...

I've been using BSplayer to make caps, but all of a sudden it's been freezing when I try to jump to a later part of the video. Plus it says the video is only two and a half minutes long, and once the bar is full it just keeps going and so I have no idea where I actually am in the video.

So anyway I decided to try VirtualDub but it won't even open my video. Is it not supposed to play DVDs or am I doing something wrong? It seems ok, but I try to open a file and none of them show up as options unless I change the extension to "all files" and then it gives me an error message.

Any thoughts?
