GIMP Icon Tutorial

Hey guys! This is my first tutorial, its for GIMP but you can totally do it on other systems :)

I get really annoyed at people who say that GIMP is significantly different from PSP or PS. It's really similar and if you know how to use either programs, you can totally use GIMP

We are going from thisoriginal to this Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This is very simple :)

1. You take this picture (from TGFR )

You see how there are spots on here face? well, you use the clone too ( it looks like a stamp) and you left click + CTRL the are you want to clone, and go over the spots.

Her face is a little pixelated, so you get the blur tool ( looks like a tear drop) and you click on the blur option. Go over her face, making her skin look nice and smooth, be careful not to go over it too much, go over her jacket too. Sharpen it once and crop it to take out what you dont want and then you get this:

2. Resize the image to 100x137 and then crop it to 100x100. ( GIMP instruction only: Then you click the image tab, go to fit canvas to layers) you should get this:

3. You the duplicate the image twice. Setting the first to soft light and the second to screen, both at opacity 100, it should look like this:

4: Then add these brushes by iconistas
( GIMP instruction only: If you copy/paste this layer, after you add the layer, right click it and select new layer, it defloats it.)
Set this one at screen, opacity 100

Set this next one at dodge, opacity 100

5. Then, you add a text, I added Dinara at 16 ft with French Script, but you can add whatever you want.

6. The last step is to duplicate the background, move it to the top and set it to either soft light or screen or overlay you should get this (this one is set at soft light):

Be creative, you don't have to do it just like this. This is just a guide. :) And it would be great if you could post what you made, I really like seeing how other people interpret tutorials. :)
