Help?

What kind of brush would you call this on this layout: http://tinypic.com/2dp7qb Not the sqaure graphic but the background with all th elines, would you call it a line brush??? Is there an offcial name for brushes like that? Is it even a brush at all?? Also what is the official name for this brush too, its lines going from across : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v289/Mantber/stephanieicon.jpg if you look really close you can see them. I made the icon but I just found the brush in a lyrical brush pack. I think it was placed there by mistake. if anyone could shed some light onto this it would be very appreciated!! :)
