Goodbye Blur - for beginners

This is a very simple tutorial for beginners, showing how to get rid of the blurriness in bases.

How to go from Image hosted by Photobucket.com to Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Sometimes, when I want to shrink down an image to 100 x 100 pixels, I notice that the image begins to blur. The focus is lost, and as the size is reduced, I’m left with haziness.

First of all, I SHARPEN the image, twice or three times depending on the severity of the distortion. In the case with this particular image, I sharpened it five times. Then using the SMUDGE tool (opacity 40, hardness 40), I smoothed out the skin (and ONLY the skin).

To greaten the contrast in the image, I duplicated the base twice. I set the topmost layer to HARD LIGHT 40%, and I set the middle layer to SCREEN 24%. Afterwards, I merged all the layers. I noticed that the side of her face is a bit ridged, so using the SMUDGE tool (same settings as before) I smoothed it out, very carefully.

And voila! A simple tutorial for getting rid of blurriness. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. :)
